The Review recommended that the Government should provide a framework within which self-reg…

We investigate financial intermediaries’ interest rate risk management as the simultaneous decision of on-balance-sheet exposure and interest rate swap use. Our findings show that both decisions are substitute risk management strategies. A higher likelihood of bank distress makes banks reduce their on-balance sheet interest rate exposure and simultaneously intensify their swap use. Exogen…

C. K. Ogden, the great semanticist and inventor of "Basic English", is reported to have commented on the saying: "words are convenient noises" by remarking that no more than one thousand of them have any precise meaning. This is particularly true of words relating to human affairs! The reason for this unsatisfactory state of affairs is not hard to find. Social relationships (political and…

There were obvious disadvantages in splitting up the …

In teaching these courses, we have found that Barro’s treatment of the subject does not make use of the mathematical skills of our students. In particular, Barro relies almost exclusively on economic in…

Indeed, the major criticism we encountered suggested that we had made it all too easy for students of development studies – a limitation that we could more than happily live with! Further, the original volume has given rise to at least one other companion to devel…

I worked at Merrylands and Cabramatta police stations in the late eighties and early nineties. It was frustration over attending …
