Over the years a variety of file transfer tools and techniques have been utilized to support the file transfer needs of internal systems as well as file transfers with external partners. The file transfer process has become complex, involving differing platforms, technologies, processing methods and support. Each process has been developed separately to meet differing requirements resulting in individual hubs or silo solutions. This has resulted in several specialized teams within the organization to support each of these solutions, which makes requesting; maintaining and supporting a new file transfer request complicated, costly and time consuming. The above was written by a financial services company when going out to tender for a new corporate wide Managed File Transfer system to replace the variety of file transfer systems they currently had deployed. Many companies find themselves in the same position with a desire and need for change but, particularly in today‘s economic environment, a corporate wide replacement project may not have a high enough Return on Investment. However, the problems remain and are having adverse effects on costs, efficiency, service levels, and compliance. This White Paper looks at what can be done to put file transfer under ‗control‘ without needing to make changes to the existing file transfers, whilst at the same reducing costs.
