the chapter. At age 29 Andrew Mason became the
founder and CEO of Groupon (the name is a combo of
group and coupon), a Chicago-based Web site.
Launched in November 2008 during the recession,
Groupon features a daily deal on the best stuff to do,
see, eat, and buy in more than 500 markets and 44 countries
in local markets across North America and regional
offices in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and throughout the
world, and soon beyond.1 It has been called the fastestgrowing
Web company ever (yes, faster than Google,
Facebook, Amazon.com, etc.), and it has also become
profitable much faster. More than a third of its sales
already come from overseas.
